Sky Caves of Nepal
Legendary climber Peter Athans joins a team of explorers to unearth the hidden relics of Nepal’s ancient and remote caves in this documentary. He is joined by National Geographic grantee and archaeologist Mark Aldenderfer and adventure climber photographer Cory Richards. Together they reveal the treasures waiting to be discovered within the sky caves of Nepal — stunning murals, deteriorating manuscripts, and ancient artifacts.
When you travel through the sky caves of Nepal, you can’t help but see yourself as a very very small grain of sand. This ancient kingdom lies beyond the reaches of the modern world, behind the remote and desolate border lines of Nepal and Tibet. It’s surrounded by some of the world’s highest peaks. When you travel to this place you gain an understanding of its timelessness.
Mark Aldenderfer describes the antiquity of the region and dates it to 25 thousand years. Unfortunately there has been a significant amount of damage and destruction that takes place at the archeological sites. The looting has led to the loss of a lot of the artifacts and historical manuscripts. that make up the cultural heritage of the place.
Cory Richards has been to the Himalayas at least twelve times in the last three years. For him, the adventure wore off to give place to the beauty of experiencing the place and its people.
